Ashanti Shequoiya Douglas, better known simply as Ashanti, is an American singer, songwriter, record producer, actress, and dancer. She was born on October 13, 1980, in Glen Cove, New York.

Ashanti first gained fame as a featured artist on several hit songs in the early 2000s, including Ja Rule’s “Always on Time” and Fat Joe’s “What’s Luv?”. She released her debut album, “Ashanti,” in 2002, which included the hit singles “Foolish” and “Happy.” The album was a massive success, debuting at number one on the Billboard 200 chart and earning Ashanti a Grammy Award for Best Contemporary R&B Album. She went on to release several more successful albums throughout the 2000s, including “Chapter II,” “Concrete Rose,” and “The Declaration.” In addition to her music career, Ashanti has also acted in several films and television shows, including “Coach Carter” and “Army Wives.”

Ashanti has won several awards throughout her career. She has won eight Billboard Music Awardsfour American Music Awards, and a Grammy Award. In 2003, she won the Grammy Award for Best Contemporary R&B Album for her debut album, “Ashanti.” She has also won several Soul Train Awards, including the Sammy Davis Jr. Entertainer of the Year Award in 2003. In addition, she has won two MTV Video Music Awards, two MOBO Awards, and two Lady of Soul Awards.
