Melina Leon

BIO

Melina León has been one of the most important voices in the tropical music scene for the last two decades. Celebrating 25 years in the industry for 2023, Melina prepares a one-of-a-kind concert to share with her Puerto Rican fans and celebrate her greatest hits.

Born on July 12th as Yamillette Aponte-Yunqué in the city of Río Piedras, Puerto Rico, Melina started her career as a soloist with her first record “Mujeres Liberadas”, in which many of its tracks held the top spots on the radio throughout Puerto Rico. In 1998, she released her second record, “Con los pies sobre la tierra”. Her first single ‘Quiero Ser Tuya’, she managed to place herself among primary radio stations in Puerto Rico and the United States, and received a nomination for Tropical Artist of the Year at the “Premio Lo Nuestro 2005”. Then, in 2010, she recorded “No Seas Cobarde”. receiving a nomination
for Premio Lo Nuestro for Best Female Tropical Artist, alongside many other nominations to other Awards ceremonies such as Latin Grammy, Billboards, among others.

With her hit albums, including “Mujeres liberadas”, “Con los pies sobre la tierra” and “Baño de Luna”, she managed to place several singles on the Billboard Top Songs
charts. Meanwhile, the song “Cuando una mujer” has been one of the most featured singles in Melina León’s career. This song has been considered an anthem for women,
seeing as she talks about women’s independence, strength and determination to surpass their obstacles and reach their goals. The song has been popular within her female
audience and has become a symbol for women empowerment.

During 2017 and to celebrate the 20th anniversary of her single “Mujeres Liberadas”, Melina León returned to release “Dicen que yo soy mala”, placing itself internationally as the sequel to her iconic “Mujeres Liberadas”. In 2021 she surprised everyone with a
passionate single “Predecible”, alongside renowned pianist Arthur Hanlon. And recently, she released her hit “Mujeres Liberada Reloaded”, which is a part of 25 years of her
musical career and this 2023 prepares a one-of-a-kind show to celebrate her greatest hits alongside her Puerto Rican audience.

Recently, Melina joined the viral sensation from the hit single from Bizarrap and Shakira with her merengue version, under the name “Pa’ Tipos Como Tú”. The lyric video is now available on Melina León’s YouTube channel and the single is available on all digital platforms.

Aside from her musical career, Melina León is also an advocate for mothers and children and has worked in various campaigns to support these causes.
