BIO

The story of Los Socios del Ritmo began in Campeche, Campeche, on November 12, 1962, with the founding of “La Organización Musical” Los Socios del Ritmo. Since then, the group has remained in the public’s favor for more than 62 uninterrupted years. Throughout their career, they have performed a wide variety of genres, including ballads, cumbia, salsa, rock and roll, instrumental music, bossa nova, paso doble, polkas, romantic music, and merengue.

From their first album, Ska (1964), to their most recent production, Cu Cu Cu Cumbia, their music has been consistently well-received. Known for creating their own unique style and influencing other groups, they have earned the title “The Number One Musical Institution in America.” In 1984, they became the first Latin American group nominated for a Grammy Award with the album Y ahora ¡Conniff!, and they have since received hundreds of national and international awards.

In 1970, with their first major hit “Vamos a Platicar,” the group solidified their place in Mexican popular culture. Their live performances and recordings established them as the only group from their era to remain active, relevant, and fully consolidated over time.

Their extensive discography includes albums such as Los Fantásticos (1965), Llegaron Los Socios (1966), Venezuela (1968), Vida (1969), Vamos a Platicar (1970), Chilito Piquín (1971), La Escoba (1972), Pregonero de Campeche (1973), Románticas de Etiqueta (1984), El Caballo Lechero (1985), Llorar (1999), Felicidad (2000), Amor de Internet (2002), and 50 Aniversario (2014), among many others.

In 1985, the incorporation of Joaquín Salamanca as lead vocalist marked a turning point, strengthening the group’s success in subsequent releases. In 1999, the song “Llorar” once again placed them at the top of

popularity charts throughout the Americas.

In 2018, the group reinvented itself with its first collaboration album, Hoy, which earned Gold certification and became one of their most successful productions. This project helped adapt the group to the digital era. Shortly after, they surpassed 100,000 YouTube subscribers and received the Silver Play Button. They currently have over five million monthly listeners on Spotify.

Their collaboration “Llorar” with Alexander Acha was certified Platinum and Gold in Mexico in 2020 and reached Double Platinum status in both Mexico and the United States in 2024, surpassing 240 million views on YouTube. In 2019, “Vamos a Platicar” was featured in the soundtrack of the award-winning film Roma, highlighting the group’s cultural impact and legacy across generations.

In August 2021, they released their second collaboration album, La Cumbia es lo de Hoy, featuring artists such as Rubén Albarrán, Omar Chaparro, Beto Cuevas, Chiquis Rivera, Elefante, Samo, Playa Limbo, Marco Di Mauro, El Bebeto, and Bobby Pulido. The album achieved strong radio and digital success in Mexico and the United States.

That same year, they were nominated for Premio Lo Nuestro for Best Cumbia Song of the Year and recognized by La Mejor FM as Best Cumbia Group. In April 2022, Promotores Unidos U.S.A. honored Los Socios del Ritmo in Las Vegas for their 60-year career, during one of their most extensive and successful U.S. tours.

Also in 2022, they were honored by the Mexican Senate in recognition of their lasting influence on national culture. On April 25, 2024, they performed at the Auditorio Nacional in Mexico City, delivering a memorable sold-out show with special guests. Their passion for music has taken them beyond borders, with extensive touring throughout the United States, where they continue to connect with diverse audiences and share the joy of tropical music.

Today, Los Socios del Ritmo continue to write their story—one of perseverance, talent, and love for music—solidifying their status as living legends of tropical music. Their performances in Mexico and the United States confirm why they remain “The Number One Musical Institution in America.”
