Jagged Edge represents R&B as a group that records timeless classics. (JE) is made of identical twin brothers Brandon and Brain Casey, Kyle Norman and Richard Wingo. Coming from gospel roots, they have always been fans of groups like Take 6, The Winans and Commissioned. Their R&B favorites include, New Edition, Boys II Men and Jodeci.

 

Kyle, the visionary behind the group, knew there was something great about the twins when he continued to observe a crowd around them each time they sung. He convinced them to join his youth choir at New Birth Missionary Baptist Church shortly thereafter they formed TwinAK. JE initially signed with Michael Bivens under his Biv Ten label however, due his roster at the time, the group was released. The result was TwinK as the fourth member left to pursue other options. The guys were

introduced to Kandi Buress (formerly of R&B group X-scape), who suggested Richard Wingo as an additional member. Richard joined and the quartet became Jagged Edge. Kandi took the group to Jermaine Dupree, in 1995 and after an acapella performance they were signed to So So Def Records.

 

In 1997 they released “The Way That You Talk, “featuring appearances by both Dupri and rapper, Da Brat. The single entered the top 40 pop charts. It was followed up with their first album, A Jagged Era, in 1998. The album went gold and produced the Top 20 R&B and Top 40 pop hit, “Gotta Be.”

 

Follow-up album, J.E Heartbreak solidified JE’s place in R&B music history, with 4 hit singles, the album topped the R&B and Pop charts, selling over 2million copies. The album is most famous for number one R&B hits such as “Let’s Get Married “and “Promise.” Both singles skyrocketed up the Top 10 pop charts and lived there for weeks. Winning five Billboard Awards and two Soul Train Awards, including Best R&B/Soul Album and Best Single for “Let’s Get Married.” 

 

Jagged little Thrill was released in the summer of 2001. The Lead single “Where the Party At (featuring Nelly),” reached platinum status within 4 weeks and the group was nominated for their first Grammy and resulted in their second multi-platinum album.

 

These successes were followed by the release of gold selling projects, Hard in 2003 and self-titled, Jagged-Edge in 2006. In 2007, the group released The Baby Makin’ Project on Island Def Jam. The album debuted #8 in the US Billboard 200 charts, selling 78,000 in the first week.

 

The group has gone on to release 10 studio projects in addition to features on several prominent artist. In addition to receiving a Grammy for their feature on the Killa Mike project “Slummer”, a 2023 Soul Train nomination a best R&B group, the guys show no signs of letting up. They are currently working on their eleventh studio project as well as venturing into other segments of the entertainment areas.
