Brian Courtney Wilson

BIO

All it takes is one listen to Brian Courtney Wilson. Then you’re wondrously hooked.

Since arriving on the scene in 2009, Wilson has managed to release 4 solo albums and share his talents as a member of Fred Hammond’s United Tenors. Throughout those projects, Wilson’s singular tenor and community-minded ministry has won the humble artist a growing host of fans and critical acclaim. As a Stellar Award winner (United Tenors), a Dove Award winner (Worth Fighting For), ASCAP “Power In Praise” Award winner, Billboard Music Award nominee (Worth Fighting For), as well as a 3 time Grammy Award Nominee (Worth Fighting for & A Great Work) & the Motown Gospel artist brings the full measure of his singing and songwriting talents to every project and performance.

Wilson’s first album, Just Love (2009) is filled with radio favorites such as “Already Here”, “Awesome God”, the self titled “Just Love” and the song that still holds the record for number of weeks on the Gospel Singles Chart with 92, “All I Need”. His second album, So Proud (2012) builds upon Brian’s signature fusion of gospel, adult R&B and soul music with stand out tracks “He Still Cares”, “Obey Anyway”, “One Day At A Time” & the autobiographical, “So Proud”.

In 2015, Brian released the ground-breaking Worth Fighting For. This first project on Motown Gospel was produced by the critically acclaimed Aaron Lindsey and was recorded at St. John’s United Methodist Church in Houston. The smash, self-titled single, “Worth Fighting For” has been called a modern day anthem as it overflows with spirit and emotion. Accompanied by a fresh, colorful mix of contemporary R&B, gospel, rock, folk and spoken word, Wilson’s melodic tenor passionately expresses joy, love, self-doubt, grace, empowerment, victory and—above all—inspiration. As he soulfully proclaims on the title track/lead single: “Nothing can separate me from your love / When there’s so much more still worth fighting for.” That message propelled the song to Number 1 on the Billboard Gospel Songs and Mediabase Gospel Chart.

A GREAT WORK, Wilson’s fourth album, comes at a crucial time in our culture and country. A time marred by fracture, division and confusion. A time when message-oriented music is desperately needed. This album speaks right to the heart of the national conversation. Brian Courtney Wilson reflects on today’s culture of faith, on community & social injustice and our relationship with God. It is an album for the modern-day church and modern-day believers.

Wilson raises the consciousness with A GREAT WORK. As a whole, it seeks to encourage our spirits, to strengthen our hearts and to restore our confidence in God and ourselves. Lyrically it contemplates the forces shaping American culture; and offers Brian’s perspective on this GREAT truth of God.

Working with a collection of top writers and producers, a veritable who’s who in music that includes V. Michael McKay, Aaron Lindsay, Warryn Campbell, Marvin Winans, and Erik Dawkins, Mano Hanes, and Shaun Martin this is Brian’s literal ‘Great work.’

With standout tracks “You Make Me Rich”, “Increase My Faith”, “One More Praise”, “Heal”, “Our Father Is Kind” and the Grammy Nominated title track “A Great Work”, which reached #1 on Billboard & Mediabase Gospel National Airplay Chart, A GREAT WORK is a profound collection of moving lyrics and a celebration of music styles that reveal Wilson at a new level of sophistication and depth in his artistry. As you hear the influences of Sam Cooke, Donny Hathaway and Luther Vandross throughout, as well as brilliant production choices, it’s clear A GREAT WORK is unlike anything in today’s field. There is dance, funk, R&B, soul and traditional gospel throughout the 10-tracks.

A GREAT WORK connects on all levels to people in different ways, but it is ultimately an album that speaks Brian Courtney Wilson’s heart so clearly and so wonderfully. “What I hope people hear and get out of this body of work is that they have something of immense value that is worth sharing and worth planting. We have to be intentional about building one another up and celebrating accomplishment and encouraging the best effort.”

Brian Courtney Wilson has performed on multiple nationally televised shows including The Stellar Awards, The Dove Awards, BET Celebration of Gospel, The BMI Trailblazers Award, BET’s Bobby Jones Gospel, Gospel Superfest and The McDonald’s Inspiration Celebration Gospel Tour.

“One of the things I pray for”, says Mr. Wilson, “To create a great catalog of music that people can lean on in good and tough times”. We are all thankful that his prayer is being answered with every album released.
