Jamie French

BIO

Jaime French, a true original has forged her own road. For the past decade, the dynamic comedian/YouTuber has left an indelible mark on the digital landscape with her unique blend of humor, wit, intellect and creativity and now she’s set to conquer another horizon with the release of her debut EP, The Ripple Effect (March 24), with its palpitating lead single, “The Hunter” entering the digital world.

Born in St. Louis, French’s passion for creation ignited at a young age when she received a video camera for her 12th birthday. From that moment, she embarked on a journey of storytelling and self-expression through a lens.

Initially focusing on makeup and beauty tutorials, she soon discovered her comedic talents and transitioned to creating content that showcased her irreverent humor, searing commentary and fresh inventive editing, a purely modern way of storytelling.

With an army of 5 million faithful across Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube, where she boasts a million subscribers, French catapulted to fame with her renowned series, ‘If Beauty Gurus Existed in…,’ offering hilarious parodies of modern influencers throughout history, from the 1700s to 1999, before becoming a celebrated podcaster/pop culture analyst with her no-holds-barred movie reviews, green-screen sketches, parody songs (Ariana Grande’s “breathin” from her Sweetener album, roaringly became “Cleanin”) and clever comedic interludes. At the core of every endeavor is her innate ability to elevate her content while maintaining a relatable and authentic presence.

Her journey from tutorials to comedic sketches to live shows and now making music reflects her determination to pursue her passions and connect with audiences. It started in 4th grade as a standout singer selected to be in her school’s esteemed Starburst choir. From there, she starred in every production she could while also soaking up the sounds of her youth, in the songs and anthems of Heart, Celine Dion, Toni Braxton, Jewel, Alanis Morissette, and later Evanescence, and Tori Kelly, as a way to see a path forward with music as a source.

In making this a reality, French felt it would be vital for a new setting with a scene more connected to the industry so she moved from Missouri to Nashville last summer to begin anew while working on the material for her debut.

Co-produced by 4-time Academy of Country Music “Guitar Player of the Year” Tom Bukovac (Ann Wilson, Gwen Stefani, Faith Hill, Vince Gill) at The Smoakstack, the songs are extremely personal but presented in a way that anyone can relate to. In her words, the EP is: very dark, very raw, very real, but I hope it speaks to everyone.”

As experience on the swirling, emphatic title track, Jaime’s ripping out the stitches, peeling away the layers, removing the bandages, truly diving into the nitty gritty, telling her story for the first time, sharing the ways in which her family and loved ones affected her, positively, and negatively, as much of life’s experiences and consequences are ripple effects of someone else’s choices, sometimes from generations ago, perpetually handed down with DNA as the family sentence.

As she sings, “A choice like a stone cast in a stream, ripples spread the distances unseen. Standing the wake of a single mistake and I feel it,” French bears the karmic weight of lifetimes, multiplied, but is giving herself and her listeners a lifeline as each person can exercise freedom of speech, of expression, of regeneration, extinguishing patterns and moving on.

Ripe to be a rhythmic crossover hit that will appeal to fans of Adele, Florence Welch and Kelly Clarkson is lead single, “The Hunter,” an urgent modern pop song that explores the depths of chronic insomnia. As she learned from therapy, very often, sleeplessness can be traced back to childhood trauma, even if it’s not in the conscious mind, your nervous system can remember. A self-perpetuating loop, one’s anxiety creates the inquisition, “Why is my own mind against me, why is it hunting me?”

Knowing this feeling all too well, French decided to flip the script on “The Hunter.” For the official video, she collaborated with Avenir Media and director Tito Guzman (Hillsong Young & Free, Alexander Pappas) to bring to life the fleeting/fleecing elements of the mind. In the exquisitely sculpted action, French does double duty, portraying the heroine and the villain, as she embodies an omnipresent dark-hooded figure chasing her authentic ethereal self with the figures multiplying throughout representing every bad thought, a ripple effect of the cycle of the mind, of generational trauma. In the end, she not only survives, she thrives.

The sweeping/soaring “Ties of Blood” takes it one step further, that of cutting ties with a toxic family member. Partially inspired by the Journey song, “Mother Father,” and its “ties of blood” lyric, the slow-burning ballad reflects on the idea of being tied to someone by blood but choosing to break free from the poisonous limbs of a family tree. Deeply seeded, it’s never easy.

The Ripple Effect‘s redemptive arc shines through on “Carry Me,” a song about finding support and strength in learning to heal as everyone, from time to time, needs to be carried, if only until they can get back on their own feet. The song is inspired by the love and support of her husband Nick over the last 15 years. Carry Me echoes the poem, “Footprints,” which, in essence, is about someone getting to heaven and asking God, “Why was there only one set of footprints, where were you when I needed you most?” “I was with you all along, because I was carrying you,” is the spiritual lesson learned, one that speaks to love, be it from religion, spiritual affirmations, faith or human connection.

With that ethos, French wants to cast a ripple effect of footprints to encourage and inspire those that need it most, to build a global community, virtually, but also in person. To this path, she’s on the road this year to continue her successful run of sold out shows, bringing comedy, music, levity and a sense of serenity from consumption as a commodity.
